Why Intergas Is Different
Intergas is a Dutch boiler manufacturer with a fascinating engineering philosophy: fewer parts means fewer failures. While most combi boilers have around 800 components, the Intergas Combi Compact HRE has fewer than 300 β making it uniquely reliable and simple to service.
The secret is Intergas's twin heat exchanger design. Rather than a single large heat exchanger that handles both central heating and domestic hot water (as in most combis), Intergas uses two separate heat exchangers. This eliminates the diverter valve β the most common failure point in conventional combi boilers. No diverter valve means far fewer breakdowns and a longer service life.
Intergas boilers have developed a devoted following among experienced heating engineers and homeowners who've had enough of unreliable boilers. Their no-fuss reliability and straightforward servicing make them a favourite in the industry, even if they don't have the marketing budget of the bigger brands.

The Twin Heat Exchanger Advantage
The most common reason combi boilers break down is a failed diverter valve. This component switches the boiler between heating mode (for radiators) and hot water mode (for taps and showers). In a traditional combi, this valve cycles constantly β and eventually fails.
Intergas's solution is elegant: use two heat exchangers, one permanently dedicated to central heating, and one permanently dedicated to domestic hot water. Both run simultaneously whenever needed. The result:
- No diverter valve β the single most common boiler failure point is eliminated entirely
- Instant hot water β no waiting for the boiler to switch modes
- Simultaneous heating and hot water with no drop in performance
- Significantly fewer moving parts β lower maintenance costs over the boiler's lifetime
- Simpler servicing β annual services take less time and cost less
Is an Intergas Right for My Home?
Intergas boilers suit most UK homes and are a particularly good fit for:
- Homeowners who've had repeated breakdowns on conventional combis and want a genuinely more reliable alternative
- Properties with simultaneous hot water demand β the twin exchanger design means heating and hot water run concurrently without compromise
- Homeowners considering a heat pump in future β the Intergas Xtreme is designed for hybrid operation with air source heat pumps
- Anyone who values long-term value β the lower parts count means lower lifetime running and servicing costs
Intergas Boiler FAQs
Intergas is a smaller Dutch manufacturer that focuses on engineering quality rather than advertising spend. They're very well known among professional heating engineers, but less so among consumers. In the Netherlands, where they originate, Intergas holds a dominant market share. Their UK presence has grown steadily through word of mouth and strong engineer reviews.
Yes. Intergas parts are stocked by major UK heating merchants and available next day in most cases. Because Intergas boilers have fewer parts than conventional combis, the range of parts required is actually smaller β and they tend to need replacing less often.
Intergas offers up to a 10-year parts and labour guarantee when the boiler is installed by a registered Intergas installer and the warranty is activated online. Annual servicing by a qualified engineer is required to maintain the guarantee.
Intergas boilers achieve ErP A ratings with SEDBUK efficiency of around 92β93%. This is on par with mainstream brands at full load, though Intergas's efficiency advantage is more pronounced in real-world usage due to accurate modulation and the twin exchanger design reducing energy waste.
Yes. Intergas boilers are compatible with all popular smart thermostats including Nest, Hive, Honeywell, and Drayton Wiser. They use standard OpenTherm connectivity, ensuring full modulating control from compatible smart controls.
