Boiler Installation Questions

A new combi boiler with full installation typically costs between £1,800 and £3,500 depending on the brand and model chosen, the complexity of the installation, and whether any additional work is required (such as a system flush, power flushing, or pipework modifications).

Premium brands like Worcester Bosch Greenstar 8000 and Viessmann Vitodens 200 sit at the higher end of the range. Mid-range models from Vaillant ecoTEC Plus and Intergas Compact HRE offer excellent performance at more competitive prices. We'll always provide a fully itemised, fixed-price quote before any work begins.

Most like-for-like combi boiler replacements are completed in a single day — typically between 4 and 8 hours. This includes removing the old boiler, fitting the new one, making all gas and water connections, testing, and commissioning.

More complex installations — such as converting from a regular (heat-only) boiler to a combi, or rerouting pipework — may take 1–2 days. We'll give you a realistic timeframe during your free survey.

Yes. An adult (18+) must be present throughout the installation for access, handover, and to receive the commissioning documentation and warranty paperwork. We'll book a day that works for you and confirm an arrival window so you're not waiting around all day.

We remove and dispose of your old boiler responsibly as part of the installation price. Old boilers contain refrigerants and other controlled materials that must be disposed of correctly — our engineers follow all Environment Agency regulations for appliance disposal.

After every installation you'll receive: a Accredited Building Regulations Compliance Certificate (BC1 notification), the completed Benchmark commissioning checklist, the manufacturer's warranty registration (we register on your behalf), and our own workmanship guarantee. Keep these documents safe — you'll need them for warranty claims and when selling your home.

Yes. We offer 0% interest-free finance options on new boiler installations, allowing you to spread the cost over 12 or 24 months with no interest. Subject to status and credit approval. Ask for details when you request your quote.

Boiler Repair Questions

We offer same-day and next-day boiler repairs across Birmingham and the West Midlands. For emergency breakdowns — particularly in cold weather or where vulnerable people are in the property — call us directly and we'll prioritise your job.

Error codes vary by manufacturer. Common codes include low pressure faults (E119, F22), ignition failures (E133, F28), sensor faults, and overheating lockouts. Our engineers carry diagnostic equipment for all major brands and can identify the fault quickly on arrival. Do not attempt to reset a boiler repeatedly if the same fault code keeps returning — call an engineer.

A useful rule of thumb is: if the repair cost exceeds 50% of the cost of a new boiler, or if the boiler is over 12–15 years old and has had multiple recent faults, replacement is usually more economical in the long run. A newer A-rated condensing boiler can save significant amounts on gas bills versus an older G-rated appliance. We'll always give you an honest recommendation.

Boiler Servicing Questions

Industry guidance and most manufacturer warranties require an annual service. We recommend booking in late summer (August–September) before demand peaks in autumn. For landlords, an annual Safety Inspection (CP12) is a legal requirement.

Yes, in most cases. Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, Viessmann, and Intergas all require annual servicing by a qualified engineer as a condition of their extended warranties. Skipping a service can void your warranty and leave you unprotected for repair costs.

The Benchmark Checklist is a nationally recognised document issued by qualified engineers following boiler installation and each annual service. It records combustion readings, system pressure, inhibitor levels, and other safety checks. Your insurer or manufacturer may ask to see it, and it adds value when selling your home.

Boiler Brands

Based on warranty call-out rates and Which? survey data, Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, and Viessmann consistently rank among the most reliable boiler brands in the UK. Intergas also has an excellent reliability record due to its unique twin heat exchanger design which eliminates the commonly failing diverter valve. We install and recommend all four brands.

Warranty lengths vary by brand and model: Worcester Bosch offers up to 12 years on certain Greenstar models when installed by an accredited engineer. Vaillant offers up to 10 years on ecoTEC models. Viessmann offers up to 10 years on the Vitodens range. Intergas offers a 5-year parts and labour warranty. All warranties require annual servicing to remain valid.

A combi (combination) boiler provides central heating and instant hot water directly from the mains — no hot water cylinder or cold water tank required. Best for smaller to medium-sized homes with 1–2 bathrooms.

A system boiler heats the central heating and a separate hot water cylinder. Requires a cylinder but no cold water tank in the loft. Good for homes with higher hot water demand.

A regular (heat-only) boiler requires both a hot water cylinder and a cold water tank. Typically found in older properties. Less common in new installations but sometimes the right choice for homes with low mains water pressure.

Central Heating & System Questions

A MagnaCleanse is a professional central heating flush carried out using Adey MagnaCleanse technology. It circulates a powerful cleaner through your radiators and pipework, then captures sludge and magnetite using powerful magnets.

Most boiler manufacturers — including Worcester Bosch, Vaillant, and Viessmann — now require a system clean before installation to validate the warranty. Even without a warranty requirement, a system clean is strongly recommended to protect the new boiler's heat exchanger and improve efficiency.

Cold spots at the bottom of radiators are usually caused by magnetite sludge — a black iron oxide deposit that builds up in the system over time. The sludge settles at the lowest points of the radiator, blocking flow. A MagnaCleanse system clean will remove the sludge and restore full heat output. Adding corrosion inhibitor afterwards prevents it from returning.

Boiler pressure dropping below 1 bar usually indicates either a small leak somewhere in the system (check radiators, pipework joints, and the boiler itself) or a faulty pressure relief valve. You can top up the pressure via the filling loop, but if it keeps dropping within days, call an engineer to identify the root cause. Repeatedly topping up without fixing the leak can cause long-term damage.
